#HBIBReviews: The Woodhouse Pizzeria – CLOSED
Hello all, just before this blessed month of Ramadan started myself and a few friends headed out to the Woodhouse to see what it was about as I am a huge pizza lover and often head off to Pizza Express to enjoy some good stone baked goodness!
Location: Based towards the bottom of Ladypool road on the corner opposite Antep it is in the busy part of Ladypool road where parking is a huge issue so make sure you park safely as you would not want to be getting a ticket! Otherwise it is the perfect spot for food in Birmingham at the moment. That side of Ladypool Road seems to have everything you could need with a trip down to Chaiwalla for some tea after being a 30 second walk away! 7/10
Service/Atmosphere: The outside is done really well and they have gone for a modern theme with large glass windows. It is pretty much a kind of play on Pizza Express but it works. I like the decor and the toilets were well maintained also which is a big thing. They have the kitchen on show and you can see the huge clay oven which is cooking your pizza to really get the mouth salivating. The staff are well dressed and very polite, and were happy to make amendments to the food as requested. Overall top quality and something which I was quite impressed with but is needed for this type of establishment. 9/10
Food: Now on to the main thing. The boys were hungry and we tried to order as many variants as possible. This is not just a pizza place with the Woodhouse offering burgers, pizzas and even steaks. For the starters, we opted for a mixed platter “The Woodhouse Misto” which consisted of some chicken wings, lamb chops and then some garlic bread. And then one of the favourite starters ever the Bruschetta Con Funghi (£4.45) . The mixed platter was really nice, wings had some good flavouring to them and I liked the mix of BBQ and Mango & Lime on offer. However the Bruschetta Con Funghi was disappointing, the bread was quite tough and dense when it should be light and fluffy and the sauce with the mushroom on top came out very luke warm which was not nice to see, the friend I was with said it was like this the last time he had visited also, hopefully they can improve on this and next time it will be better!
For the mains we opted for a an Indiana but instead of chicken had Peperroni (£9.65) and had a Mexican Burger (approx £8). The mains were awesome, really well made pizza, nothing too fancy and they kept it simple. The burger was decent, not as good as TruBurger but definitely was ok, with this place you come here for the pizza. I was lucky as myself and a friend both shared a pizza and burger so had a good taste of both and would say I prefer their pizzas. 7.5/10
Overall: If you like your pizza than head over to Woodhouse, I heard mixed reviews when they first opened but it seems as if they have ironed some of these out. If they sort out their Bruschetta Con Funghi then they may even get me away from Pizza Express more often. Parking is an issue so maybe avoid peak times if you want a stress free meal. 8/10
